The guitar licks in Maiden's newer stuff has been blowing my mind. Especially the fast part in Dream Of Mirrors, the intro to The Nomad, the incredible melody toward the end of Thin Line, the solo in No More Lies, the overall sound of the guitars and how they work as a trio is just incredible.

Best Maiden Solos:
1. Prodigal Son
2. Powerslave
3. Strange World
4. 22 Acacia Avenue
5. Revelations

Adrian Smith and Dave Murray are my absolute favorite twin guitar team.
No question. With Smith's phrasing and Murrray's awesome legato style and tone they really have something special.

They are pretty good, however, I really can't tell who plays the solo when I hear them...

theres a few pretty distinct differences between Murray and Smith. dave murray tends to favor the neck pickup more. he also uses the phaser effect very often and is much more "noodly" i guess you could say.if you hear lightening fast legato runs its definitely him. adrian smith favors the bridge pickup and imo has tastier phrasing. his solos are very meticulous. his solo in The Trooper(the first solo) has amazing phrasing.

I see, thanks! Do you have any idea who plays the solo I posted?

Wanted,
Strange World is incredible, the tone there is one of the best I've ever heard, honestly. That was from their first album, when it was Dave Murray & Dennis Stratton, but I'm pretty sure that lead is all Dave.

Agreed. Tone, emotiona, melodies, all awesome. That's by far my favourite piece of guitar playing by Maiden... Thanks for the info!

For sure, and check this out, the best Maiden solo for me by far...

Starts at 3:04, Adrian's finest moment!

Incredible solo, my friend, I knew from the first that it's gonna be good. Still prefer Strange World, but this is close second!

Knew you'd love it...

Anyway, I don't really care much for Janick, but he is smooth as hell. The solo here at 3:49 is so short but the flow is just incredible...

It was pretty good, I have a friend who is much bigger IM fan than myself and he thinks Gers is the best out of those three... Tecnhically, he may really be the best...

He's the fastest, but Dave and Adrian's techniques are far superior.

Creep is right. I'm pretty sure it's Dave. That's a great work by Maiden.

hmm i can't say it's my favorite Adrian moment(mine would probably be either the solo in The Trooper or in The Prisoner) but i like that prodigal son quite alot. it reminds me of Genesis(the song, not the solo), who I know influenced Steve Harris's writing style.

Really? after watching the flight 666 dvd i would say he's not as fast as dave maybe i'm wrong though. dave is imo one of the most effective legato players out there and adrian is so spot on in so many solos. they're easily both better than Gers.
what makes adrian and dave great to me is their unique style. not speed.
