Ram-Zet - Neutralized 4.5/5

Most underrated release of the year? I think so. So untr00, over the top, and cheesy, but its just so good. Their sound takes a bit of getting used to maybe, but once you do you might just like it. If you like Madder Mortem or Unexpect, you should totally dig this.

Riot - Fire Down Under

Another shamelessly overated album from the early 1980s. Curiousity reeled me in, but I found little more than an average heavy metal album with nothing extremely special going for it. Also, what the fuck is up with the album cover?

Voivod - Infini

Considering Voivod's previous album, I didn't come in expecting too much from this album. I was hoping, but I wasn't expecting. I actually think that Voivod got worse on this effort, and that's even more disappointing. Terrible songs like "Earthache" & "Krap Radio" have become the norm for this once great band.

Crematory - Illusions

A strange and unique style of gothic metal with progressive and death metal elements as well. It's something quite interesting to hear. Crematory manage to balance very well, with good vocals and instrumentation as well.

Judas Iscariot - Heaven in Flames

Here is an underatedly fantastic and Darkthrone influenced album from the American one man band Judas Iscariot. Excellent black metal, with great guitar playing and vocals. Highly underated and highly recommended.

Nasum - Helvete

It's rather fitting that Helvete would be my 666th rating on this site. The epitomy of grind, this is an in your face, aggressive assault of the ears, but with such incredible riffing as to make it something more than just noise. Nasum are truly one of the kings of grindcore.

Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus (1986)
4/5... Really kick ass old school doom metal album. I guess that it's a classic of that particular sub-genra.

Blotted Science - The Machinations of Dimentia (2007)
4/5... First listen, really fricken crazy instrumental progressive tech metal. Makes me want to put my prog-metal cap on again.

--------

Yo people.

Thundersteel might be more to your liking. Nice to see a Judas Iscariot fan on these forums, though.

All of their other albums are better actually.

Slayer- World Painted Blood- 7

Araya's singing just doesn't work well at all on this album.

Dave isn't nearly as creative or tasteful as he usually is... and the only thing that makes it any better is actually the guitar playing; there is actually some decent soloing on this album.

Megadeth- Endgame- 6.5

Never cared for them much to begin with, this is pretty average for a Megadeth album.

Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss (10/10) Been listening to this album a lot recently. War Ensemble, Dead Skin Mask, Skeletons of Society, and the title track are all some of my favorite Slayer tunes and the whole album is essential.

Candlemass - Tales of Creation (9/10) Yet another great release by Candlemass. The remake of Under the Oak is just as great and tracks such as Dark Reflections and Tears are all great.

Death - Leprosy (10/10) It's always hard to say what my favorite Death album is, but Leprosy is one of the top candidates. The title track never gets old.

Akercocke - Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone

A very interesting and elaborate mix of many of metal's genres, resulting in a progressive feeling blackened death metal album. The results are very solid, thanks to spectacular riffing. The vocals are strange. At times they seem to be a strong point, but the use of certain vocal styles can also be frustrating.

Control Denied - The Fragile Art of Existence

Even after Death, Chuck proves to be an absolutely fantastic song-writer, and an extremely talented musician. There is great riffing to be found on this album, and the only complaint I have is a minor one; the lyrics. Even the vocals are pretty good for prog metal.

Gordian Knot - Gordian Knot

There is an absolutely astounding amount of talented musicians to be found on this album, and not one of them sings. Gordian Knot debuted with what you may expect from a Cynic-esque group with no vocals. There is a lot of technicality and some wankery, but there is enough musical quality to make this a worth while listen, even a very good listen. The only issue comes with the lengthy and annoying closing track. This is a still a very strong release.

Kvist - For kunsten maa vi evig vike

I'm not sure how influential Kvist were to future bands, but there are a lot of aspects to their sound that I can hear in black metal afterwards. This isn't so much a melodic black metal album as it is an album where all styles of black metal are combined into a completely epic and awesome whole.

Ludicra - Another Great Love Song

Ludcira put forth a very solid effort here, if nothing much more than that. Most of the songs are pretty good, following the unique style of Ludicra. There are, however, a couple of weaker ones that make this a good album instead of a great one.

Overkill - Under the Influence (8.5/10) Been wanting this album for a while now and I'm glad I got it. They add to thier series of "Overkill" songs with part 3 "Under the Influence," which is probably the best song on the album.

Slayer - World Painted Blood (7.3/10) A lot better than I expected. It's got nothting on their first 5 classic albums, but the title track, Unit 731, and Not of the God are all standouts.
