Alice In Chains (Revision)
1. Would?
2. Down In A Hole
3. Man In The Box
4. Nutshell
5. Rooster
6. Them Bones
7. Got Me Wrong
8. No Excuses
9. Again
10. I Stay Away
Would is probably AIC's best known song. It's still a rock radio stable nearly twenty years since its release. If not number one, it still should be at least top 4. I also added Again and I Stay Away in place of No Excuses and Grind. |

I digress. "Would?" is not even their highest charting Staley song. It only hit #19 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart and didn't chart on the Billboard Modern Rock Chart (now called Billboard Alternative Songs chart).
"No Excuses" hit #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart, #3 Modern Rock and even got a bit of Top 40 radio airplay (peaking at #32 on the Top 40 Mainstream airplay chart). Here's Allmusic's listing of all their charting singles on every Billboard chart they appeared on. Interestingly, "Check My Brain" is their only song to crack the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at #92 in early September.
"Would?" however, is their biggest hit in the UK. Their UK chart peaks:
"Would?" #19, 1993
"Them Bones" #26, 1993
"Angry Chair" #33, 1993
"Down in a Hole" #36, 1993
"Grind" #23, 1995
"Heaven Beside You" #35, 1996
My revision would be something like:
1. Heaven Beside You
2. No Excuses
3. Would?
4. Man in the Box
5. Rooster
6. Down in a Hole
7. Got Me Wrong
8. Them Bones
9. Angry Chair
10. Check My Brain |

I just realized that Morrissey doesn't have a list. This is going to be remedied now.

Beatles (Revision)
1. I Want to Hold Your Hand
2. A Day in the Life
3. She Loves You
4. Yesterday
5. Hey Jude
6. All You Need is Love
7. Let It Be
8. Something
9. In My Life
10. Strawberry Fields Forever
IWtHYH is actually their best-selling single. Ive put SLU higher because it was released before I Want and was also a huge hit, so a great part of the Beatlemania/British Invasion can also be credited to it. Yesterday is higher because, when comparing it with HJ, they are equal in popularity and cultural impact and have little actual influence, but Yesterday is the most covered song ever, so I would give it a significant lead in impact. The rest is pretty much the same. |
Well "Hey Jude" was a hugely successful single with a very long run time, which wasn't very common. It also had the longest run at U.S. #1 for any Beatles single, and is routinely rated as being one of the top ten songs of all-time by critics.
"A Day In The Life" never got its chance as a single, but it was pioneering in terms of its song structure with its grandiose use of an orchestra, the ending piano chords, etc. As a song, it pretty much sums up the whole compilation of Sgt. Pepper's.
I think "Yesterday" should top "She Loves You" and "I Want to Hold Your Hand", since it was the first song where the Beatles finally broke their teenybopper mold, but maybe we could switch "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You"?
Beatles (Revision)
1. Hey Jude
2. A Day in the Life
3. Yesterday
4. I Want To Hold Your Hand
5. She Loves You
6. Let It Be
7. All You Need Is Love
8. Something
9. In My Life
10. Strawberry Fields Forever
I dunno, just my 2 cents. Also,
Dream Theater (Revision)
1. A Change of Seasons
2. Pull Me Under
3. The Count of Tuscany
4. Under a Glass Moon
5. The Glass Prison
6. Space Dye Vest
7. Metropolis, Pt. 1
8. Lie
9. Erotomania
10. Take the Time
Just thinking. "A Change of Seasons" is looked at as being their greatest work, while "Pull Me Under" was really their only commercially successful song. "The Count of Tuscany" is the centerpiece track on Black Clouds & Silver Linings, which charted top ten in 14 countries (including the U.S. this time). The rest is just slight modifications to the original. |

| It's too fast to put CoT at such a high placement for DT. And Metropolis is top 3 for sure. It's very influential within progressive metal. Pull Me Under could take 1. There's really no reason forCoS being #1 unless it's THAT important to have a 20 song at #1... AND Octavarium should be top #5. I'm pretty sure it was voted #1 on a fan-voted list of best DT songs ever... |

Heaven Beside You was both one of their highest charting songs and one of their most popular. That's why I put it at #1. |

Does "Pull Me Under" have anything besides popularity? It's not a particularly proggy song, fairly straightforward. But I wouldn't mind the above list; I think it's a little bit better than what's on the site, now. |

why did I include "Check My Brain"?, you're probably asking. It all has to come down to where it charted. "Check My Brain" was a #1 hit on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and the band's first Billboard Hot 100 appearence.
My list includes two popular songs that you excluded on yours: "Got Me Wrong" - which became a sizable crossover hit for the band two years after its first release on the Sap EP after it was used in a scene in the 1994 indie comedy Clerks and was specifically released as a single because of this - and "Angry Chair", one of the band's most popular rock radio hits. |
